Frequently Asked Questions

At Battle Arts Academy, we want your training journey to be smooth and transparent. Below you’ll find answers to the most common questions about our memberships, pricing, programs, and class schedules. If you don’t find what you’re looking for, contact our team anytime — we’re happy to help!

1. What martial arts styles do you offer at Battle Arts Academy?

We offer a full spectrum of combat sports and martial arts including wrestling (freestyle, folkstyle), Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ), Muay Thai, boxing, kickboxing, DEKA and MMA. We also provide specialized youth programs, adult programs and sport-specific training (for example takedown-focused wrestling).

2. I’m a beginner. Can I join even if I’ve never trained before?

Absolutely. We welcome beginners of all ages and fitness levels. Our coaches will introduce you to the fundamentals of movement, technique, safety and conditioning before progressing you into more advanced training. We make sure you feel welcome, supported, and comfortable.

3. What should I bring / wear to my first class?

For your first class, wear comfortable athletic clothes (T-shirt, shorts or leggings), water, a towel, and bring a pair of clean indoor training shoes if needed (for striking classes) or bare feet for mats (for wrestling/BJJ). We’ll supply any required gear for your first visit; once you commit you may want to purchase gloves, shin guards, mouthguard, BJJ gi etc.

4. How do memberships and class schedules work?

We offer flexible membership options tailored to your commitment level. Members get access to scheduled classes across our offerings. Our youth classes and adult classes are scheduled at different times; we also have specialized drop-in or club programs (e.g., our high-level “GTA Wrestling” for 18+). Ask our front desk for the current schedule and plan that aligns with your goals.

5. Will I need to sign a contract? What are cancellation policies?

Yes we have a membership agreement that outlines the terms, including duration, payment schedule and any applicable cancellation notice. We strive to keep our terms clear and flexible — our goal is to keep you training and progressing, not locked in without value. Please speak with the membership team for details.

6. Can you help me with fitness, weight-loss or conditioning (even if I’m not interested in competition)?

Definitely. While we offer competition-level coaching and programs, many members train simply for fitness, weight-loss, improved coordination, confidence and overall wellness. We’ll tailor the volume, intensity and type of training to your goals.

7. What safety and hygiene measures do you have in place?

We maintain strict hygiene and cleaning protocols on mats, equipment and changing areas. Coaches are certified and trained in safe instruction; we emphasise proper warm-ups, technique over aggression, and safe sparring practices. Your wellbeing is a priority.

8. How do I know which program is right for me or my child?

We recommend booking a free trial or assessment so we can determine your or your child’s current level, goals and schedule. From there, we’ll align you with the best class or track (e.g., youth wrestling, BJJ fundamentals, adult striking, etc.). That way you join with confidence.

9. Can I bring a friend or try a class before signing up?

Yes. We encourage prospective members to try a class (or two) to get a feel for our community, coaching style and facility. Bringing a friend is often welcome—just contact us ahead of time so we can organise the right class slot for a trial.

10. Do you offer competition or advanced training for experienced athletes?

Yes we do. For advanced athletes we offer performance-driven training in wrestling, grappling, striking and MMA. For example our GTA Wrestling program for adults (18+ advanced) meets Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 5:30-7:30 pm and Saturdays at 10 am. We also support competition preparation, weight-cutting guidance and mental conditioning to help you succeed.

11. Do you offer kids’ programs and what ages can join?

Yes, we offer structured kids’ programs for ages 4 to 14. Our Kids Striking, Kids Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and Kids Wrestling classes focus on developing discipline, confidence, coordination, and respect through safe, supervised training. Children learn technique through fun, engaging drills in a positive environment that builds both athletic and life skills.
